22nd February 2019

Kitty Whitelaw and her band celebrate the centenary of one of the hippest jazz vocalists of all time Anita O'Day. Come celebrate the jezebel of jazz with us!

Anita O'day was born Kansas City, Missouri, 1919 and over her lifetime became a celebrated jazz singer widely admired for her sense of rhythm and dynamics. She broke the mould in her early career by refusing to submit to the usual role of the female "canary" big band singer and wore suited skirts and band jackets.
She was immortalised in the classic film "Jazz On a Summers Day" where her live performance at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1957 wowed the world because of incredible vocal phrasing and speed with her versions of "Sweet Georgia Brown" and "Tea For Two".
